Help us, God our Savior, for the glory of your name;
deliver us and forgive our sins for your name's sake.
~ Psalm 79:9 (TNIV)
But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and
just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from
all wickedness. ~ 1 John 1:9 (NLT)
Why is it that rescue or deliverance is so often associated with forgiveness in the Bible? Could it be that the very thing which strains our relationship with God also stresses the rest of our relationships in the world? Could it be that our inability to function successfully in the world is rooted in our inability to relate successfully to God?
God our Savior, the psalmist asks that you forgive the people so that your reputation might be upheld. I ask the same for myself, that I might once again experience your faithfulness. I want to get past the weightiness of the garbage in my life and on to the freedom that honors you. For the sake of Christ Jesus, the Savior incarnate, I pray. Amen.
